The TeX Book's Appendix G illuminated
Two very interesting documents by Bogusław Jackowski are available from the TeX Gyre page, see the “Readings” section.
Note also that on August 27th the TeX Gyre Cursor family of fonts (based on URW Nimbus Mono L, originally Courier) was released. The fonts are now at version 1.010.
